Moorpark Teenager Credited With Saving 6-Year-Old Boy From Rip Current

(KNX 1070) — Elyse Gillis-Smith, a Moorpark teenager, put her swimming skills to the test when she came to the rescue of a small boy who had been pulled into the ocean by a rip current.

It happened a few weeks ago, reported Diane Thompson of KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

"Well, I was swimming in the ocean and then all of a sudden these waves started pulling me out," Gillis-Smith said. "Then there was this little boy in front of me who was like, 'Hey, help me!' "

"It's really terrifying. I don't know it was just like this crazy fear and you didn't know what to do," she said.

KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO is proud to name Elyse the KNX Hero of the Week, a program presented by California Resources Corporation.
