Monterey Park Man Sentenced In Rapes Of 2 Women

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 27-year-old man convicted of raping two women he met at a café was sentenced Thursday to 30 years to life in prison.

Andrew Van Bui of Monterey Park was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said in a written statement.

The statement says the 27-year-old was convicted in August of two counts of rape, among other charges, in connection with the rapes.

The prosecutor assigned to the case said Bui met the victim at the café where he worked.

The first victim, a 26-year-old woman, was drugged and sexually assaulted at Bui's home, the prosecutor said. That incident occurred in August 2013.

A week later, authorities say Bui met a second woman, age 22, at the same café and invited her to his home, where she was sexually assaulted.

Authorities said the second victim alerted authorities and Bui was arrested.
