Montebello Lawmaker's Husband Sentenced For Selling Meth To Undercover Deputy

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Montebello city councilwoman's husband was sentenced Friday for selling methamphetamine to an undercover deputy.

Ruben Guerrero, who's married to Councilmember Christina Cortez, was ordered to serve 180 days in L.A. County jail and perform 30 days of Caltrans work, according to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office. He'll also serve five years on probation, having to register with his local law enforcement agency as a narcotics offender.

The 44-year-old Montebello resident pleaded to one count of possession of methamphetamine for sale and that the crime occurred within 1,000 feet of a school.

Five other drug-related counts were dropped after he made the plea.

Guerrero was arrested Oct. 17 last year after the sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau set up an undercover sting operation near Montebello Intermediate School.

Cortez, who was the city's mayor at the time of the arrest, said she had no comment regarding her husband's sentencing. She told the Los Angeles Times last year that his arrest left her
"very disappointed" and "shocked."
