Mom Gets Surprise Of Her Life When Son Returns From Afghanistan

SANTA FE SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — A mother received the surprise of her life Friday when her son, a U.S. Army specialist, returned home from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Cynthia Guerrero thought she was looking for an RV in Santa Fe Springs, but instead, she saw her son, Gabriel Guerrero, who has been overseas for six months.

"This is the best gift a mother could ever have is to hold her solider, son and my hero in my arms once again," she cried.

Cynthia's daughters were the ones who got the idea to surprise their mother, who is in the market for an RV. They called George "Cowboy" Pent at Mike Thompson's RV.

Pent, a veteran himself, said the story reminded him of when he came home from Vietnam.

"Being a Marine, surely, I'm going to do this for this guy. It's so wonderful. Veterans don't get enough recognition," he said.

Asked if it was hard keeping the secret from his mother, Gabriel said, "She kept asking me all the time when I was gonna come home."

Cynthia said it wasn't the reunion she imagined—it was even better.

"They really did surprise me. I was shocked. I'm speechless. I mean, this is my boy," she said.
