Missing Pomona Teen With Autism Fatally Struck On 71 Freeway

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Police said Wednesday that a person fatally struck on the Chino Valley (71) Freeway was a teen boy with autism who had recently been reported missing.

The accident happened around 12:25 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Mission Boulevard exit, Pomona police said.

Gabriel Pierson, 17, was walking near the freeway center divider when he was hit by a Ford F150 truck.

The Pomona teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pierson, who had a history of wandering from his nearby home and onto the freeway, had been reported missing to authorities by his mother around the time of the accident.

The crash was being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the pick-up truck was not arrested and will not be charged, officials said.
