Director Michael Moore made the prediction on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" as the show's panel discussed the week's events at the Republican National Convention.

"The truth is that this plays to a lot of people that he has to win to become the next president," Moore said. "And I have to say, I'm sorry I have to be the buzzkill here so early on, but I think Trump is gonna win."

While the studio audience leveled boos at Moore's comment, host Maher had a much different take.

Moore, best known for documentary films such as "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Bowling For Columbine", likened Trump's appeal in the Midwest states to another political earthquake occurring across the pond.

"It's gonna be the Brexit strategy," he said. "The middle of England is Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania...all he has to do is win those four states."
