All LA Metro Buses To Be Electric By 2030

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – All public buses in Los Angeles will be electric by the year 2030, the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Thursday.

The Metro Board of Directors voted to transition its entire fleet, approximately 2,200 buses, from gas-powered to electric by 2030.

Metro also voted to purchase 95 electric buses, at a cost of $108 million, by 2020. They will be used on the Orange Line, which serves the San Fernando Valley, and the Silver Line, which runs between El Monte, downtown Los Angeles and San Pedro.

Metro already purchased five electric buses in March.

According to Metro, all the new buses will be built in Southern California.

Metro's fleet currently runs on compressed natural gas.
