Merit Man Wins $95K Green Flash Handicap At Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) — Merit Man won the $94,540 Green Flash Handicap by a half-length at Del Mar on Wednesday.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Merit Man ran five furlongs on Polytrack in 57.22 seconds and paid $7.20, $3.60 and $2.60.

Remind Mee returned $5.80 and $4, while Wine Police was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $3 to show.

Caracortado, the 5-2 favorite, was fifth.

The victory, worth $56,100, increased Merit Man's career earnings to $462,030, with four wins in nine starts.

Merit Man finished third in last year's Florida Derby, and was off for more than a year. He returned on July 18 at Del Mar, finishing fourth in a turf sprint race.
