Mega Millions Ticket Worth $700K Sold In Santa Monica

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  A Mega Millions ticket worth nearly $700,000 was sold in Santa Monica.

The ticket, sold to a patron at Osko's Mobil (731 Santa Monica Boulevard), is worth $697,111.

The winning ticket matched the numbers 2, 9, 11, 22, 23, missing only the Mega Number 12. The jackpot reached $260 million. A winning ticket with all six number was sold in the Chicago area.

The California winner has 180 days from the date of the draw to claim the prize. Otherwise the money will be redirected to help California public schools.

The Mega Millions game is played in 42 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Mega Millions jackpot starts at $15 million and climbs every time there is no winner. The record jackpot went to $656 million in March 2012.

The current jackpot for Powerball is $188 million. Drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays. The $2 Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball starts at $40 million. The record jackpot reached $590 million in May 2013.
