McDonald's Turns Golden Arches Upside Down 'In Honor Of Women'

LYNWOOD (CBSLA) — A McDonald's in Lynwood turned its golden arches upside down in celebration of International Women's Day.

The fast food chain said flipping its logo is "in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere."

International Women's Day takes place March  8.

KCAL9's Tom Wait reported from the Lynwood location.  He reported that this location seemed to be the only one taking part in the celebration locally.

19-year-old Cynthia Longoria, who lives and works in Lynwood, said she appreciated the gesture.

"That's amazing," she said, "as a female in a low income family. from a minority, it's great to see representation of not only my gender but in my neighborhood. It feels awesome."

She said the day is a reminder for women to become empowered.

"I think about it a lot," Longoria said, "because I think every day is International Women's Day. Because without women, this world would not be going around. It's just a reality of the situation."
