Mayor Garcetti Unveils New Jobs App

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —   Looking for a job?

Indeed is good, Monster is splendid.Glassdoor is fab.

But Mayor Eric Garcetti Saturday unveiled a new mobile app that allows smart-phone users to search nearly 50,000 employment listings in the city of Los Angeles, and nearly 150,000 countywide.

"Finding a great job in the 21st Century means searching whenever you want, wherever you are," Garcetti said at the Northeast Valley Worksource Center, where representatives from new companies such as Uber, Lyft, Instacart and AirBnB spoke to job seekers. "The new JobsLA app puts that power in your hands."

KCAL9's Jeff Nguyen reported from King Taco in East LA -- the scene of a job fair held earlier this week.

Marketing specialist Fernando Guzman knows about looking for work. all too well.

"It's all about efficiency," he said.

JobsLA, Nguyen explains, filters job listings from 20,000 websites, gets updated daily, and is completely ad-free.

"Especially if the commute, if I don't want to commute," said job seeker and Whittier resident Mari Gonzalez. 16.

JobsLA is available for both iOS and Android devices, and can be downloaded free from the iTunes app store or Google Play.
