Maryland Tops No. 1 National Seed UCLA 4-1 In NCAA Tourney

   LOS ANGELES (AP) — LaMonte Wade homered and Maryland defeated No. 1 national seed UCLA 4-1 on Saturday night in the Los Angeles Regional.

Robert Galligan pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Terrapins (41-21), who set a school record for victories and moved into the championship round of the regional.

Galligan (4-4) entered with a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning and gave up only an infield single. Kevin Mooney pitched the ninth for his 10th save, his second in two days.

UCLA (43-15) scored an unearned run in the first inning off Maryland starter Brian Shaffer, who left after two innings.

Maryland's Tim Lewis hit a two-run triple off Grant Watson (8-5) in the second, and Wade led off the third with his third homer. Kevin Smith followed with a double and scored on Kevin Martir's groundout.

The Bruins will play CSU Bakersfield in an elimination game Sunday.
