Marine From Riverside Killed While Serving Against ISIS In Iraq

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) —The Department of Defense announced the death of a U.S. Marine Saturday who was fighting against Islamic state terrorists in Iraq.

According to the Pentagon, Lance Cpl. Sean Neal, 19, of Riverside, died on Thursday from a non-combat related incident.

Neal had served in Operation Inherent Resolve in Baghdad.

"I'm deeply saddened to learn about the death of Lance Cpl. Sean Neal in Iraq," said Rep. Mark Takano. "Neal's dedication to serving our country is admirable and I know that all Inland Empire residents will join me in honoring his memory. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Lance Cpl. Neal was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, Crisis Response, Central Command and was based at Camp Pendleton.

He is the second U.S. service member to be killed while serving in operation.

His death remains under investigation.
