Man's Body Recovered From Garden Grove Flood Control Channel

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — The body of a 34-year-old man was recovered Friday from an Orange County flood control channel.

According to the Garden Grove Police Department, Mario Alberto Hernandez, of Garden Grove, was identified by the coroner's office.

A pedestrian reported the body around 7:30 a.m. on the east side of Ward Street, north of McFadden Avenue, in Garden Grove.

"Officers responded to the area and could see a male body wearing blue jeans stuck on the center pillar of the flood control ditch tunnel to go under Ward Street," Lt. Ben Stauffer said.

The Garden Grove Fire Department responded to the scene and performed a swift water rescue to recover the body.

The Orange County Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of Hernandez's death.
