Manhattan Beach Firefighters Deliver Burn Patient's Wish List On Christmas Morning

LYNWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A young burn victim's holiday wish list came true on Christmas morning.

Members of the Manhattan Beach Fire Department delivered toys to 10-year-old Kevin Gonzalez around 9:00 a.m. Thursday to his home located in the 3100 block of Banning Avenue.

Officials explained Gonzalez was burned by a pot of soup while traveling in the back seat of his family's car, when it collided with two other vehicles that were racing earlier this month.

Gonzalez suffered from second-degree burns to his left leg, and was treated at Torrance Memorial Medical Center's Burn Unit. He underwent surgery last week.

His mother, sister, two brothers and father were also in the car, but were uninjured.

Their car, however, was totaled in the crash.

Since the accident, the family has been surviving on food stamps as the father recently was laid off from his job.

In addition to Kevin's toys, firefighters brought cash and donations from the community to his parents in light of the holidays.
