Man Who Intentionally Drowned 1-Year-Old Daughter In 2011 Is Convicted Of Murder

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — A  father who intentionally drowned his 1-year-old daughter five years ago, has been convicted of murder.

Pasadena Police Officers responded to a residence at 145 W. Del Mar Boulevard  regarding a baby not breathing on May 20, 2011.

Upon arrival, officers found Monajah Jackson not breathing. She was later pronounced dead.

The subsequent investigation by Homicide detectives led to the arrest of the baby's father, Marquise Jackson, a Lancaster man. Authorities said he drowned the child (whose name was also sometimes spelled Mo'Nayjah) while the baby's mother was at work.

Following his arrest by detectives, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed one count of first degree murder along with one count of child endangerment against Jackson.

He went on trial last month in the Los Angeles Superior Courthouse in Pasadena. After a four week trial, the jury convicted Jackson earlier this week.

On Saturday, Pasadena Police cited the following as being "instrumental" in helping in Jackson's conviction: Det. William Brogham (lead Homicide Investigator); Det. Cuong Pham (co-lead Homicide Investigator); Det. Ara Bzdigian (Homicide Det.); Det. Keith Gomez (Homicide Det.); Officer Alex Torres; Sgt. Kelly Evans (Homicide Supervisor); Lt. Tracey Ibarra (Homicide Lieutenant) and Former Forensic Specialist AC Brogden

Jackson  is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25. He faces up to 25 years behind bars.
