Man Suspected Of Swindling Senior Out Of Building Ownership, Income Arrested

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man wanted for "swindling" a 92-year-old woman out of the ownership of an eight-unit apartment building and the rent that was her sole income has been taken into custody, police said Thursday.

Carlson Jackson, 60, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of financial elder abuse, Los Angeles police officials said. He is being held without bail, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's jail records.

Jackson is suspected of tricking Mabel Miles, who owned an apartment building in the 1900 block of Palm Grove, into selling the property to Jackson's company, CAJ Properties LLC, for $250,000.

The building, where Miles has lived for 40 years and which she owned free and clear, had been ppraised for approximately $850,000 to $1 million, police said. The building's rental checks were also rerouted to a PO box in Los Angeles, where police say Jackson has been collecting them.

Jackson and Miles are not related, but Miles said she had known Jackson since he was a child, when they both lived in Detroit.
