Man Wanted For Shooting Dog During Altercation With Transients

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Police are searching for a man who shot and wounded a dog who ran toward him during a confrontation with a group of transients in San Bernardino.

Lt. Rich Lawhead says officers responded to reports of shots fired at a homeless camp near a residential area Wednesday night.

Lawhead says a resident brandished a gun after telling homeless people to stay away from his house. Investigators say as the man was walking away, a pit bull apparently belonging to a transient broke free and went after him.

The man fired two shots, striking the dog once. The animal was treated for a wound to a rear leg and released back to its owner.

Detectives say the shooter fled in a white pickup.
