Man Struck, Killed While Checking Out Flat Tire In Fontana

FONTANA (AP) — Authorities are looking for the driver of an SUV who they say struck and killed a man who was inspecting a flat tire along State Route 210 in Fontana.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jesus Garcia says the hit-and-run happened early Sunday on the shoulder of the freeway, near the Cherry Avenue exit.

Garcia said 55-year-old Jose Alvarado of Pomona and two others got out of a vehicle to check out a blown tire. One in the trio saw a white SUV heading toward them and jumped back into the vehicle, but Alvarado didn't have time to react.

He was struck and thrown about 40 feet.

The hit-and-run driver got away.
