Man Stabbed On LA Subway Near MacArthur Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating after a man was stabbed on a Los Angeles subway early Saturday morning.

LAPD officers responded to the Red Line train at South Alvarado and 7th streets, near MacArthur Park, around 1 a.m.

Investigators believe two riders who did not know each other got into an altercation, during which one of the riders pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the arm.

The victim was transported via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say witnesses alerted them to the identity of the suspect, described as a woman in her 50s.

She is in custody, charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators believe she is a transient.

Regular Metro riders are calling for heightened security on the transit system. Others say they're not surprised.

"When you go on the Red Line, even the Purple Line, you take chances, you know," said frequent Metro rider Pamela Wright. "So when I was on the Purple Line, I had an experience with some guy that came over and exposed himself to me. It scared me bad."

"This is the hood. It is what it is," another man said.
