Man Shot By Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies

THERMAL (CBSLA.com) — A man was shot early on Saturday morning by Riverside County Sheriff's deputies after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at officers. The man was in the hospital on Saturday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff's Department said.

Deputies said they responded to a 911 call of shots fired in a domestic dispute at around 2 a.m. near Avenue 70 and Polk Street in Thermal. Sheriff's deputies checked several residences before meeting with a resident living on the 69400 block of Fillmore Street.

There, a man stepped out of a residence holding a shotgun, the sheriff's department said. Deputies identified themselves as peace officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred when the man pointed the shotgun in the deputies' direction, the sheriff's department said.

First aid was administered at the scene and the man was taken to a hospital. No deputies were injured during the incident.

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave per department policy and their names will not be released at this time, the sheriff's department said. An investigation is ongoing.
