Man Shot And Killed In El Monte

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A man was killed Tuesday in a car-to-car shooting in El Monte, authorities said.

The shooting, which occurred in the 9300 block of East Garvey Avenue, was reported at about 4:30 p.m, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Peter Gomez.

The victim was driving eastbound on Garvey when someone in a dark-colored mid-sized car opened fire.

The male victim was hit and he subsequently crashed his car into three other vehicles, officials said.

The man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

A female passenger in the victim's car was not injured, according to deputies.

A motive for the shooting was not released, however, authorities believe the shooter has gang ties and the victim may have been mistakenly targeted.

The Sheriff's Department asks that anyone with information call its homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
