Man Sentenced To Jail For Breaking Into LAPD Car In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old man was sentenced to prison Thursday for breaking into a Los Angeles Police Department vehicle that was parked in Hollywood.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Leyston Rice was ordered to spend one year in jail, was placed on probation for five years, and was ordered to attend 26 anger management classes.

On Feb. 11, 2014, two officers parked their squad car in front of the Hollywood & Highland Center, and returned to find five of the windows were broken.

Witnesses videotaped the incident, which revealed that Rice used metal stakes to smash the windows of the car. He then proceeded to steal a laptop from inside the vehicle.

Rice pleaded no contest to one count of felony vandalism.

He was additionally ordered to pay $4,782.97 in restitution to the city, the district attorney's office explained.
