Man Sentenced For 1997 Murder Of Fellow Inmate

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors say a man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing a fellow inmate at the Los Angeles County Jail nearly 17 years ago.

The district attorney's office announced Friday that 42-year-old Jamie Vidales was sentenced immediately after pleading no contest to one count of murder.

Vidales is charged with killing Miguel Sanchez in July 1997.

Prosecutors say Sanchez was jailed on a sexual assault charge when he was found strangled on a bunk bed in a room occupied by other prisoners.

Prosecutors say another inmate helped Vidales attack Sanchez but was later killed in jail himself.

Vidales was already serving a life sentence for a previous murder and robbery.
