Murder Suspect Killed In Boyle Heights Officer-Involved Shooting

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A suspect who was seen running from a homicide in Boyle Heights was killed Wednesday night in an officer-involved shooting.

After hearing gunshots around 10:25 p.m., police on patrol located a victim in the intersection of 4th and Soto streets, according to officials.

"While searching for that gunfire, they observed one victim collapse and fall in the street," Sgt. Barry Montgomery said. "The officers responded to that location where they confronted the suspect who was armed with a handgun."

The officers requested ground and air backup before chasing the suspect on foot.

The man, who was about 35 years old, was shot a block away, according to police. It was unclear if he fired at police or how many officers shot at him.

No officers were injured in the incident.

A handgun was recovered near the suspect.

Both the original murder and the officer-involved shooting were under investigation.
