Man Pleads Not Guilty To Attempted Murder In Easter Sunday Nurse Stabbing

SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — A man accused of stabbing a nurse at a Sylmar hospital has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

Ramiro Carnalla, 26, is charged with one felony count each of attempted murder and resisting an executive officer, along with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery, reports City News Service.

The criminal complaint includes a knife-use allegation and an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim.

It also states that Carnalla was convicted of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury in 2012.

Carnalla is accused of calling 911 from outside Olive View-UCLA Medical Center on Easter Sunday and claiming to have a weapon.

When police arrived on the scene, the defendant allegedly went inside the hospital and stabbed a nurse several times.

Authorities previously told KCAL9′s Brittney Hopper the suspect and victim were not acquainted.

Carnalla has remained in jail since his arrest.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 23, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.
