Man On Motor Scooter Dead Following Crash With Santa Monica Patrol Car

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A man driving a motor scooter was killed Saturday when he collided with a Santa Monica patrol car.

An officer was also injured, reported CBS2's Art Barron. The unidentified officer was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and released after treatment.

The collision occurred around 7:30 a.m.  in the intersection of Fourth Street and Pico Boulevard, near Santa Monica High School.

Barron spoke to witnesses.

"Then all of a sudden, I heard a crash and we looked over and saw there was debris all over the place," said Lucas Gomes.

"We walked all the way down there and saw that the guy was on the floor. No movement at all," Gomes said.

"Unfortunately, the gentleman riding the motor scooter passed away," said Karina Munoz with the CHP.

Another witness, Hans Haveron said, "the driver's side door of the officer's vehicle is completely bashed in."

The CHP is investigating the accident.
