Man On Bike Fatally Shot In South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 46-year-old man was fatally shot while riding his bicycle in South Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred about 12:20 a.m. on South Main Street and East Century Boulevard, according to authorities.

Investigators say Don Jackson was headed southbound on the west-side of Main Street when he was struck by gunfire. Authorities believe that at least six shots were fired in that area.

"It's apparent that he was riding his bicycle when he was shot. We don't have any eyewitnesses so we don't know what kind of confrontation, if any [occurred] prior to the shooting," said LAPD Lt. Jeff Nolte.

A short time later, a passerby alerted authorities. Jackson was taken to an area hospital where he died.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call the Criminal Gang/Homicide Detectives Nate Kouri or Manny Castaneda at (213) 485-4341. Calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 during non-business hours. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
