Man Killed, 5 Others Injured During Multi-Vehicle Crash In San Pedro

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say alcohol or drugs may be factors in a four-car crash in the Los Angeles area that left one man dead and five others hospitalized.

The crash happened in San Pedro around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. P. Ybarra tells City News Service that a car was making a left-hand turn on the 1500 block of South Gaffey Street when another car coming from the opposite direction slammed into its side.

A man in his 40s in the car that was hit was killed instantly. A man and a woman were critically injured, and three others suffered less serious injuries but are hospitalized.

Police say they're investigating whether both drivers in the crash were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
