Family, Friends Remember Man, 22, Fatally Stabbed For His Skateboard

ECHO PARK (CBSLA.com) — A man was stabbed to death after he reportedly refused to give up his skateboard during an alleged confrontation in Echo Park.

Los Angeles Police Officer Nuria Vanegas of Media Relations said the attack took place about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of West Sunset Boulevard, City News Service reported.

The victim, Carlos Arellano, was walking in the area when he was allegedly approached by three suspects.

According to authorities, that's when one of the suspects allegedly demanded the victim's skateboard and a fight ensued.

Vanegas said Arellano was stabbed in the torso while the suspects fled the area.

Arellano was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Saturday evening, friends and family gathered in Echo Park to remember him.

"It's hard seeing my brother die over someone who just wanted a skateboard," said sister Jessica. "That they wanted his skateboard [that badly] is ridiculous. If anyone knows something, please come forward."

Officials said the suspects are still at large.
