Man Gets 50-To-Life For Killing Teens In Mojave Desert

VICTORVILLE (AP) — A man who helped shoot a teenage couple in an abandoned Air Force bunker in the Mojave Desert has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.

Twenty-eight-year-old David Smith was sentenced Tuesday in Victorville after recently pleading guilty to murder.

Another man, 25-year-old Cameron Thomson, got 15 years. Authorities say he was the lookout during the 2008 killings in Helendale.

Authorities say 18-year-old Christopher Thompson and 16-year-old Bodhisattva Sherzer-Potter were forced to kneel and were shot in the back of the head. The teens had attended a birthday party at the bunker, a popular hangout that's since been demolished.

The other killer, Collin McGlaughlin, was sentenced in 2013 to life without chance of parole. He reportedly had a history of mental illness and an obsession with killing.
