Man Found Guilty Of 3 Random Riverside County Killings

MURRIETA (AP) — A Southern California man who randomly stabbed three people to death has been convicted of murder.

A Riverside County jury deliberated less than a day before convicting David Contreras on Wednesday.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

They say the 28-year-old Perris man killed Jose Apreza of Perris in December 2012. Apreza was reported missing by his wife when he didn't come home after walking his dog. He'd been stabbed two dozen times and left in a field.

Contreras also was convicted of killing 51-year-old Maria Gonzalez and her 25-year-old daughter, Consuelo, less than two months later.

The two left their Nuevo home on an afternoon walk and were found lying in the street.

Authorities say Contreras had no connection with the victims.

DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.
