Man Fatally Shot Following Argument At South LA House Party

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities say a  man was shot and killed after an argument broke out at a late-night house party in South Los Angeles early Sunday.

The shooting took place about 1:40 a.m. outside a home in the 2000 block of West 77th Street, said Sgt. Steve Vera, watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station.

"An individual at a party was conducting some activity that other people there objected to," Vera said. "The argument then moved outside and a shooting ensued which left one man dead."

Witnesses told police the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim once, LAPD spokeswoman Officer Sally Madera said.

The suspect fled the scene. No suspect description was immediately available, police said.

The victim -- now identified as 42-year-old Don Ervin Sims Jr. of Inglewood -- was declared dead at the scene.

A videographer at the scene said the body was found next to a parked white SUV with an open driver's side door open.

Police asked anyone with information about the murder to call the LAPD's 77th Street Division at (213) 485-4164.
