Man Fatally Shot By Police After Stabbing Mother's Fiancé To Death Identified

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have identified a man who stabbed his mother's fiancé to death in the family's home in Sylmar before being fatally shot by police outside the residence.

Jason Hendley, 29, died at a hospital after being shot by police at about 10:40 a.m. Monday in the 13600 block of Gavina Avenue, according to the coroner's office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

The name of the fatally stabbed man, who was in his 50s, was withheld pending notification of his relatives.

LAPD Capt. Todd Chamberlain said they received numerous calls from neighbors reporting that a bloodied man holding a knife was walking down the street. Arriving officers tried to get him to surrender, and the confrontation ended in gunfire.

When police entered the home, which the suspect reportedly shared with his mother, her fiancé and her other son, they found the stabbing victim dead.

It was not clear what led to the stabbing.
