Man Dies After Inmate Altercation At O.C. Jail

ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — A man died a day after authorities say he was involved in an altercation with a fellow inmate at an Orange County jail.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement that Thiep Truong Nguyen, 49, of Westminster died at a hospital Wednesday.

Nguyen was transported Tuesday after a confrontation with a fellow inmate at Theo Lacy Jail.

The statement said the incident unfolded inside the cell where both inmates were housed.

Authorities responded and found Nguyen unconscious.

Nguyen was transported to a hospital, where he was initially listed in "extremely critical condition." He died Wednesday.

The altercation remains under investigation.
