Man Critically Burned After Climbing Onto Transformer In Fullerton And Setting Off Fire, Explosion

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) —  Fullerton Police say a man was critically injured and burned when he climbed into a transformer around 3 p.m.

Police were dispatched to the area of Brookhurst and Commonwealth regarding an explosion.

On arrival, officers found a man who had climbed into a transformer and apparently touched off the explosion. They said the man was on fire.

The unidentified man was transported to a trauma center suffering from critical injuries as a result of the fire.

Officials issued a SIG Alert in the area and expected traffic to be diverted until the early evening.

Power in the area also went out to more than 600 customers but had been restored just before 4:40 p.m., officials said.

Fullerton Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident -- or anyone with information about the man -- to call them at (714) 738-6715.
