Man Convicted Of Battery For Hitting Relative Over Poor Grades

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A 40-year-old man was convicted of battery Wednesday for hitting a teenage relative over poor grades and behavioral issues, authorities said.

The Orange County district attorney's office said in a written statement that Daniel Hun Chun entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor count of battery.

The incident involving Chun, who was a police officer with the LAPD, and the teen occurred last March. It was then authorities say Chun confronted the boy while off-duty.

"The defendant repeatedly hit the victim with a variety of household items on his shoulders, back, and buttocks leaving welts and bruises on the victim's body," the statement said.

Chun was arrested after a school counselor noticed the child's injuries, authorities said.

He is expected to be sentenced on March 5 and faces a maximum term of six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
