Man Climbs Construction Crane 200 Feet Above Hollywood Blvd., Taken Into Custody 3 Hours Later

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) — A man who climbed a construction crane in Hollywood Sunday was taken into police custody after spending three hours scaling the structure hundreds of feet above onlookers on busy Hollywood Blvd.

LAFD personnel were called to the 6100 block of W. Hollywood Blvd. shortly after 5 p.m.

SKY2 was overhead, where the man could be seen scaling the crane approximately 200 feet above ground-level, an American flag draped around him. Firefighters turned off power to the crane, fearing he might commandeer the machinery.

The LAPD took the man safely into custody shortly after 8 p.m. It was not immediately clear how or why the man climbed the crane.

Investigators say he was slightly injured and could be booked on trespassing charges.
