Man Charged With Making Threat On Flight Headed From California To Baltimore

BALTIMORE (AP) — Authorities in California have identified a Maryland man who they say threatened to blow up a plane that was to fly from Oakland, California, to Baltimore.

Media outlets report that 32-year-old Arpan Shah of Sykesville, Maryland, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Oakland International Airport.

Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly told reporters that the plane taxied from the gate on its way to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Shah was arrested after Southwest Airlines 5135 returned to the gate when Shah told passengers he was going to blow up the plane in midair.

Shah was arrested and charged with making criminal threats. He is being held at the Glenn Dyer Jail in Oakland.

No explosives were found when the plane was searched and passengers were rescreened.
