Man Charged In Connection With Killing Of Pasadena Couple

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — The cousin of one of two people killed in a double stabbing in Pasadena was charged Wednesday with capital murder, authorities said.

Jacob Mallory Bersson has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of his cousin, Lawrence Bressler, and his cousin's wife, Denise Bressler.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said in a written statement that the counts include special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and the use of a deadly and dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime.

Authorities said the 29-year-old defendant lived with the Bresslers at their Pasadena apartment in the 200 block of N. Madison Avenue.

"On the morning of Oct. 13, Bersson reportedly forced his way into the Bressler's bedroom and stabbed them to death," prosecutors alleged. "Soon after the incident, the defendant was arrested in connection with the stabbings."

The Bresslers died at the hospital, officials said.

Although Bersson was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, his court appearance was continued to Oct. 16.

Bersson was being held without bail, authorities said.
