Man Allegedly Causes 'Significant' Rear-End Crash At OC DUI Checkpoint

CYPRESS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say several people were injured in what's being described as a "significant" rear-end crash at a DUI checkpoint in Orange County.

The accident happened Friday evening about 8 p.m. in the area of Valley View Street and Lincoln Avenue in Cypress.

Cypress police said in a written statement that the checkpoint had been operating for about 30 minutes when the collision occurred.

"Three victims were transported to local hospitals, two of which were transported to a trauma center with moderate injuries," police said. The statement also said all three were in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, identified by police as Eric Paul Ivanoff, allegedly fled the scene on foot but was detained a short time later.

Police said an officer sustained minor injuries while apprehending the suspect, who was allegedly combative.

According to the statement, Ivanoff was booked into Orange County Jail on several charges. His bail was set at $100,000.
