Man Arrested In Santa Ana Shooting That Killed 1, Injured 2

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 23-year-old Garden Grove man Thursday was facing murder charges in a shooting that killed one person and injured two others in Orange County.

Dustin Sean Ross McDonald was arrested Wednesday night during a traffic stop on charges of murder and attempted murder, among others.

McDonald is suspected of fatally shooting 23-year-old Aaron Jonathan Chavez and wounding Ashley Caldwell, 21, and a 28-year-old woman.

The trio was sitting in a vehicle Tuesday night near the intersection on Main and 12th streets in Santa Ana when McDonald allegedly walked up, fired approximately 10 shots at the car and fled in a white SUV, police said.

Chavez died at the scene.

Caldwell and the other woman were transported to Western Medical Center in critical condition.

A motive in the shooting remained unclear.

McDonald, who is being held without bail, is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday.
