Man Arrested In Connection With Series Of Armed Robberies In Fontana

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies at convenience stores in Fontana, police said on Monday.

According to the Fontana Police Department, Michael Johnson was arrested on an outstanding warrant just before 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Around 2 a.m. on Oct. 7, officers were sent to the 7400 block of Cherry Avenue for report of a robbery.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned Johnson had entered the 7-Eleven store, pointed a black handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the cash register and safe.

Officers said the clerk complied with his demands out of fear.

Surveillance video captured the robbery.

Johnson fled from the store prior to officers arrival to the scene.

On Thursday, authorities detained him in the area of Muir Street and West Constitution Way.

According to police, he is being held at the West Valley Detention Center.
