Man Arrested For Murder Of Santa Paula Mother Who Was Killed By Errant Gunfire

SANTA PAULA (CBSLA.com) — A 32-year-old man was in custody Tuesday for last month's murder of a mother in Ventura County.

Known gang member Mark James Martinez was originally arrested April 1 in the death of 39-year-old Norma Elizalde, but was later released pending further investigation.

He was re-arrested without incident at 9 a.m. Monday.

Elizalde, who was doing laundry around 1 p.m. March 29 in the 1200 block of High Street, was struck by a bullet that entered her home after two of four men who were arguing nearby pulled out guns and began firing at each other.

Elizalde was a twin and a mother of two teenagers.

Martinez, who was booked at the Ventura County Jail on $500,000 bail, was set to be in court Tuesday.
