Man Accused In El Monte Shooting Found Dead Of Single Gunshot Wound

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man accused of shooting another man has been found dead inside an El Monte home of a single gunshot wound.

The incident unfolded about 7:27 a.m. Friday when officers responded to the 11400 block of Elmcrest Street following a report of a shooting.

When they arrived on scene, they located the victim who was suffering from multiple wounds. The man was taken to Los Angeles County Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Following the shooting, the suspect entered a home near the victim where he remained barricaded for several hours, El Monte police said in a written statement.

SWAT officers made entry into the residence about 3:30 p.m. and located the suspect, who was deceased.

The statement says that police believe the suspect died of a single gunshot wound.

The identity of those involved has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
