Man, 78, Charged With Arson, Other Felonies In Connection With Elks Lodge Fire

SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — A 78-year-old man Thursday was charged with allegedly starting a fire that heavily damaged the Elks Lodge in San Pedro.

Nick Pecarich has been charged with arson of a structure, grand theft of personal property, second-degree commercial burglary and grand theft auto, in addition to two counts of vandalism, officials said.

The 35,000-square-foot lodge, which is located on a hill above the San Pedro harbor, caught fire on April 15. Most of the two-story building was ruined, except for an area used for gatherings, according to fire officials.

Pecarich, whose arrest was announced Tuesday, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Long Beach.
