Man, 34, Behind Bars For Allegedly Murdering His Mother, 57

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com)   — Authorities said a 34-year-old man is behind bars Sunday for allegedly murdering his 57-year-old mother insider her Hawthorne home.

The suspect has been identified as Nicolas Lopez, according to a department statement. Lopez is being held on a $1 million bail.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were dispatched around 4:45 p.m. Saturday to the 12700 block of Inglewood Avenue, to assist Hawthorne police investigating the fatality, according to Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The victim's family became concerned when they didn't hear from her. They went to her home to check on her well-being and said they encountered her son.

Amparo Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene, Moore said.
