Small Quakes Rattle Malibu, Fontana; No Damage Reported
MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — A pair of small earthquakes rattled the Southland within one hour of each other Thursday, according to reports.
A magnitude-3.1 earthquake struck near Malibu Thursday at 10:08 a.m. about eight miles west-northwest of Malibu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
About 50 minutes later, a magnitude-2.9 temblor struck about six miles northwest of Fontana, the USGS reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage from either quake, but residents from the San Fernando Valley and as far as Ventura County said they felt some shaking.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the latest temblors were related to a magnitude-5.1 earthquake that struck the La Habra area last Friday and is believed to have caused over 130 reported aftershocks.
A magnitude-2.5 earthquake was recorded by the USGS earlier Thursday morning close to the epicenter of the La Habra quake. That one occurred at 3:59 a.m. about 1.25 miles southeast of La Mirada and 2 miles south-southwest of La Habra, acccording to the USGS.
