Magnitude 6.2 Earthquake Strikes Off Humboldt County Coast; No Tsunami Expected

EUREKA (CBSLA) — A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck near Eureka, California Monday afternoon, the United States Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake occurred around 12:10 p.m. 23 miles west of the town Petrolia.

According to the National Weather Service a Tsunami was NOT expected.

While it occurred over 200 miles away from the metropolis of San Francisco, many Bay Area residents reported feeling the quake that struck six deep in the Pacific Ocean.

Reported damage from the earthquake is fairly minor, with some product falling off shelves and windows shattering at several commercial properties throughout Northern California.

There are also no reported injuries.
