Lynwood Restaurant Joins Program To Offer More Healthful Options

LYNWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Mexican food is a fan favorite, but it often comes at a cost to the waistline.

"I always think of that. It's always a good option to have a healthier options here," diner Cesar Dorado said.

La Huasteca Mexican restaurant has made some big changes to its menu.

"We decreased the portions and also the price on it, so it's a win-win situation for our guests," General Manager Juan Carlos Flores said.

The changes are also for the children.

"Rather than have just fries or rice, have some vegetables, salads, fruits," Flores said.

The restaurant has partnered with St. Francis Medical Center to be recognized as the first Choose Health LA restaurant in Lynwood.

They hope the changes at the restaurant will mean changes in the health of the community.

As many as 700 restaurants are recognized as Choose Health LA restaurants, but this is the first in Lynwood, and they hope many more will follow.
